Shinjan Nrityalaya was established in 1996 under the able guidance of Ms. Aloka Kanungo. It is a non-profitable organization dedicated in promoting & preserving our Heritage, Art & Culture. This academic institution lays emphasis on the all round development of the members and tries to mould them in to successful dancers, teachers, art critics, scholars & choreographers. It holds regular classes and periodical workshops. Free training is given to many under-privileged children.
The troupe has successfully performed at many Dance Festivals all over India.

Apart from performing in the troupe many of the members are the proud recipients of National Scholarship & Junior Fellowship from the Department of Culture, New Delhi, scholarship from C.C.R.T, New Delhi, as well as they have merited at the State level competitions. Some of them are gifted solo dancers who have performed at many prestigious dance festivals in India and abroad.
The members of Shinjan Nrityalaya have also actively participated in the productions choreographed by Ms. Aloka Kanungo. Shinjan had also organized a two days Bandha Nritya Festival at Calcutta and frequently organizes students program. The group dances by Shinjan Nrityalaya has been also telecast by Doordarshan, Calcutta, Asianet, Star Plus and E. T.V channels for several times. Shinjan Nrityalya has also organized Smarana Sabhas for Late Guru Padmabibhushan Kelucharan Mahapatra and Guru Padmashree Pankajcharan Das.
Shinjan's Productions
The noteworthy productions in which Shinjan Nrityalaya is associated are- Bhanusinger Padyabali, Barshar Gaan, Najrul Geet, Raas, Jugalbandi, Maharaas, Shivashakti, Gatagata, Sthapatya Satya & Mahavidya.
Kautuk, a delightful dance-drama is one of the most recent productions of Shinjan . The stories are based on the moral stories of Panchatantra .
What made the production special was the involvement of most of the renowned schools of Kolkata, and the mentally and physically retarded children of the Institute of Cerebral Palsy. It was a touching experience for all to see the children celebrate juvenal bliss in such a colourful way.
